The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a single vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Mandeville man early this morning (November 24). STPSO deputies were dispatched to Lowe Davis Road near Highway 59 in the Abita area shortly after 5:00 a.m. in response to a report of a vehicle in the ditch. When deputies arrived, they discovered a single occupant in the vehicle. Deputies and emergency personnel from Acadian Ambulance attempted life-saving measures, but the driver, 20-year-old William Meredith, was pronounced dead at the scene. Evidence suggests that Meredith was not wearing a seatbelt at time of the crash. Toxicology reports are pending from the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office, and the investigation is ongoing at this time. Following this tragic crash, Sheriff Randy Smith reminds residents to always wear their seatbelts.
