Property Tax Q&A

PROPERTY TAX FORMS

The St. Tammany Parish Tax Collector utilizes different forms to assist the public with tax research and redemptions of property sold at the annual tax sale.

To request a tax bill for a property that is not owned by the requestor, please fill out a Request for Information Form. There is a $5.00 fee for this service. The form needs to be completed and mailed in with the payment to STPSO Property Tax Division PO Box 608 Covington, La. 70434

Properties that go to our annual tax sale must be redeemed by the owner to retain ownership. This form must be completed to start the redemption process.

Requests for bills can be emailed to Redemptions@stpso.com.

Title companies, abstractors and attorneys will often use this form to obtain a three year tax research certificate from our office which is used in property sale transactions.

PROPERTY TAX SALE

Our annual Property Tax Sale is traditionally held every summer.

What is being “sold” at a tax sale is not land or buildings, but the amount of unpaid ad valorem taxes due for that tax year, along with any accrued penalties, interest, or other fees that have accumulated due to delinquency.  Buyers unfamiliar with Louisiana Property Tax Laws are strongly recommended to consult with a legal adviser before bidding at a tax sale, since these sales are considered a “buyer beware” environment.

Anyone interested in bidding on properties at our annual Property Tax Sale must register online in advance.  Registration will be advertised for each tax year.

Delinquent Property Tax Payments

Delinquent property tax payments may be made Monday-Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the Justice Center in Covington or at the Sheriff's Slidell Administrative Complex at 300 Brownswitch Road. Payments may be made in person by certified check, cash, money order or by credit card (a 2.5% convenience fee will be charged on credit card transactions). Payments can also be made online via credit card.
