Our agency currently has approximately 750 full-time and part-time employees, who dedicate themselves to the service of the citizens of St. Tammany Parish. Our motto is Preserve, Protect and Promote the Quality of Life in St. Tammany Parish and that is what each member of the STPSO strives to do through the performance of their job specific duties. 

Although the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office is recognized for our primary function as a law enforcement agency, it is actually one of the most diverse employers in the area. We employ professionals in a variety of fields including scientists, attorneys, information systems specialists and business professionals. General Qualifications for Employment:

To begin a law enforcement career at the STPSO, applicants must meet the following minimum entry requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must have a valid driver's license

  • Must have no felony, drug, or domestic convictions

  • Must be a United States citizen

  • Must have graduated from an accredited high school or received a G.E.D.

  • Must be of good moral character and pass an extensive background check.

  • Pass pre-employment examinations

  • Pass a psychological examination

  • Pass a thorough medical examination

  • Pass pre-employment drug screen
