The Sheriff's Office dispatchers receive over 20,000 calls per month ranging from general questions to reporting life-threatening emergencies on 911. Certain deputies are assigned to answering phones calls and entering information into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) computer. Another deputy will then retrieve that information from a separate workstation and dispatch the call over the radio to the criminal patrol deputy. Besides answering calls from the public, the dispatchers have the responsibility of making sure the criminal patrol deputies are safe and of always knowing where the deputies are. The dispatchers contact the deputies on the road constantly asking if they need back-up units or specialized divisions such as investigators or crime scene technicians.
