Shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday a female was on the walking trail in Belair Subdivision near Slidell when she was attacked by two pit bulls.

The victim was walking her dog, a miniature collie, on the walking trail near Hunters Point Road, when two pit bulls approached her and began attacking her dog.  When she attempted to stop them, they turned on her.

A neighbor heard the woman screaming for help and came to her aide.  When the neighbor saw the dogs attacking the woman, he fired a shot from his 9mm pistol, striking and killing one of the dogs.

The other dog was also injured by the shot but ran off.

Deputies responded and located the owner of both pit bulls, Leonard Harvey (DOB 3/30/1992; 3031 Golden Drive, Slidell).

Harvey was issued a misdemeanor summons for violating the parish leash law.  St. Tammany Parish Animal Services arrived on scene and took possession of the injured pit bull as well as the body of the dead dog.

Harvey later made the decision to have the injured dog euthanized due to the extent of its injuries and fear that it may attack again.

The victim was transported to Slidell Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for bite wounds to her left arm and left leg.  Her dog was transported to a local veterinary Clinic to be treated for its wounds.
