Three students have been brought to a local hospital with minor injuries after the school bus they were riding on Thursday (April 6) morning was rear-ended.
St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Pearl Street near its intersection with Cane Avenue Thursday morning in reference to a vehicle crash involving a school bus loaded with children.
The crash, which occurred only blocks away from two Slidell-area schools, occurred after a sedan driven by Angelle Paul ran into the back of the bus.
Paul and her two juvenile passengers sustained what appeared to be minor injuries and were transported by emergency medical personnel to a local hospital.
Two of the 26 students who were onboard the bus also sustained what appeared to be minor injuries and were transported by emergency medical personnel to a local hospital. A third student was transported as a precaution to a local hospital by their parent.
Paul will be cited with one count each of Careless Operation, Failure to Use Child Restraints and Driving with a Suspended Driver’s License.
Sheriff Randy Smith urges all drivers to please pay attention while driving near schools and in subdivisions and neighborhoods especially in the mornings and afternoons when children are on their way to and from school.
