Sheriff Randy Smith is proud to announce that the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has once again awarded the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The award was presented for the agency’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2019.

The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

In order to be awarded a Certificate of Achievement, a government must publish an efficiently organized comprehensive annual financial report. This report must satisfy both generally-accepted accounting principles and applicable legal requirements.

“Deputy Chief Tiffany Carrasco, Controller Andrea Cosse and the entire finance staff worked tirelessly to prepare this document, and I am pleased their hard work is being recognized again this year with this prestigious award.  This award is a true testament to our finance department’s daily determination to serve the residents of St. Tammany in the most diligent, professional, and transparent manner possible,” Sheriff Smith said.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a major professional association servicing nearly 20,000 appointed and elected government officials and finance practitioners.
