The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office is participating in the National Click It or Ticket campaign over the Thanksgiving Holiday.

As part of this national campaign, the STPSO will increase deputy patrols in neighborhoods and on local highways to conduct extra seat belt enforcement and checkpoints during Thanksgiving week, November 23-29.

The extra manpower is being provided for this initiative by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, which also helps fund extra DWI patrols and underage alcohol enforcement throughout the year.

Sheriff Randy Smith knows that many residents will be traveling to see family and friends for the Thanksgiving holiday. He wants to remind everyone to please buckle up and to make sure children are in size-appropriate safety seats.

“Seatbelts and child safety seats save lives,” Sheriff Smith said. “We hope the added enforcement this funding provides will encourage people to buckle up.”
