St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office is monitoring the inclement weather associated with Marco and Laura.

Sheriff Randy Smith is in constant contact with Parish Government officials and the Office of Emergency Preparedness. Please take this time to make sure you have a plan in place and continue to monitor the St. Tammany Parish Government Facebook page and the NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center Facebook page.

Deputies with the Operations Division have begun readying and staging high water equipment on both sides of the parish in preparation, and extra manpower will be on patrol to monitor weather conditions throughout the duration of tropical systems Marco and Laura, Sheriff Smith said.

With heavy rainfall and strong winds expected throughout the coming several days, flooding is expected in low-lying areas of the parish. Deputies will be monitoring roadways for flooding and down trees and power lines.

Sheriff Smith reminds residents to slow down on residential streets that have standing water and refrain from boating on flooded rivers and creek to avoid making any high wakes that may impact neighboring homes.

Please stay indoors and off the roadways during inclement weather and do not drive on flooded streets. If a rescue is needed, please call 911.
