Sheriff Randy Smith is saddened to announce the cancellation of this year’s Deputy Sheriff’s Association Senior Citizen Dinner, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This year would have marked 32 years the St. Tammany Deputy Sheriff’s Association has hosted the annual event. More than 1,000 of our community’s senior citizens attend the event, which includes a holiday meal, music and dancing, each holiday season.

Members of the Deputy Association met last month and discussed the biggest concerns of holding the dinner during the Covid-19 pandemic. With cases on the rise in St. Tammany Parish and throughout the state, it was determined it was not in the community’s best interest to host the dinner this year.

The Deputy Association does not want to risk potential exposure to the members of our community who are at most risks of contracting the potentially-deadly virus.

“We know that this is an event that our older citizens look forward to every year,” Sheriff Smith said. “This was not an easy decision to make, but it ultimately came down to the safety of our residents. We look forward to seeing you all in 2021.”
