Portions of Moonraker Drive and Eden Isles Boulevard were closed for a brief period of time Wednesday afternoon following a pursuit with a stolen vehicle that ended with shots being fired.

At approximately 2 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 12), St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s detectives were canvassing the area attempting to develop leads and further information following several recent vehicle burglaries and auto thefts that have occurred in and around the subdivision, when they observed a Dodge Charger driving suspiciously on Moonraker Drive.

Detectives ran the vehicle’s license plate and discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen out of New Orleans. They then attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle; however, the vehicle fled and a pursuit ensued.

Deputies with the STPSO Criminal Patrol and Traffic Divisions assisted and several units were damaged during the pursuit.

As deputies attempted to stop the Dodge Charger, the suspect vehicle accelerated towards a deputy who had exited his vehicle. At this time, the deputy fired his service weapon in the direction of the vehicle, striking a passenger.

That passenger, 17-year-old Kendrick Neveaux of New Orleans, was transported to a local hospital.

A firearm, equipped with a laser sight was located inside the vehicle.

The driver and a second passenger, both juveniles, were also taken into custody and are being questioned by detectives at this time.

Criminal charges will be forthcoming. This investigation is active and ongoing, and additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
