A Mississippi man was arrested Thursday (Nov. 29) after he cut his cousin with a knife while the two were passengers in a vehicle that was travelling in the Covington area.
The driver of the vehicle called 911 shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday to report one of her passengers was injured during an altercation that occurred inside her vehicle while she was merging onto Interstate 12 from U.S. Highway 190.
The victim, a 33-year-old Pass Christian, Miss. man, was transported via ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for a laceration on his neck.
The victim told deputies he was riding in the middle seat of the vehicle and his cousin, Adam Lopez (DOB 11/30/1984), also of Pass Christian, was seated behind him in the third-row seat.
He told deputies that as the driver was merging onto the interstate, Lopez reached around with what appeared to be a kitchen knife and cut the victim’s neck. A physical altercation ensued, and the driver pulled to the shoulder of the road, and removed Lopez from the vehicle before calling 911.
Deputies located Lopez walking on a nearby roadway. He was taken into custody and booked in to the St. Tammany Parish Jail on one count of L.R.S. 14:34.7 Aggravated Second-degree Battery.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of the knife believed to be used in the incident.
