With the assistance of other agencies and the public, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office have located a missing 10-year-old boy.

Nicholas Olano Jr. was reported missing the evening of Saturday, Dec. 8, after he ran away from a facility in the Mandeville area.

STPSO deputies began immediately searching the area. That search included the use of the STPSO helicopter, Louisiana State Police helicopter, STPSO K-9s, K-9s from B.B. Rayburn Correctional Center, a drone, and deputies on foot and on ATVs. The search continued throughout Sunday and into Monday morning.

Olano was located alive and hiding in a heavily wooded area at 8:42 a.m. Monday morning. He was transported via ambulance to a local hospital to be evaluated, but other than being tired, cold and hungry, he appears to be in good health.

Sheriff Randy Smith would like to thank the Louisiana State Police, the Department of Corrections K-9 Team, Fontainebleau Park Rangers, the staff of Pelican Park, the Department of Children and Family Services, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, members of the community and members of the media for helping to get the word out and assisting with this search. He would also like to thank the numerous deputies who worked around the clock in very cold conditions to do everything they could to locate this child.
