St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s detectives located an arsenal of weapons inside a Lacombe-area home while investigating a suspicious motorist Tuesday (Feb. 5).

Deputies were contacted shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday morning by a motorist on eastbound Interstate 12 after he observed a driver with at least two guns on or near his person.

The vehicle in question exited the interstate onto southbound Highway 434 and drove a short distance before stopping in the middle of the roadway.

The driver, Ronald Bonnaffons Jr. (DOB 7/27/1965) produced a handgun and immediately began firing upon a vehicle that had stopped behind him on the highway.

The driver being shot at was able to escape his vehicle and use it as a shield to prevent him from being struck as Bonnaffons continued to fire upon the vehicle using a second weapon, a shotgun.

Bonnaffons then fled the scene. He was located a short time later at his residence on Little Dixie Ranch Road. A search warrant was executed at the home, and deputies located a variety of firearms, including rifles, as well as ammunition and knives.

Bonnaffons was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on the following charges:

L.R.S. 14:37.4 Aggravated Assault with a Firearm
L.R.S. 14:55 Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property

The investigation is ongoing.
