As we mark the one-year anniversary of the death of Nanette Krentel this weekend, Sheriff Randy Smith wants the public and her family and friends to know the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office remains committed to working and solving this case.

Krentel’s badly burned body was located inside the remains of her Lacombe-area home after fire burned the residence to the ground on July 14, 2017. An autopsy conducted by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office in the days following the fire confirmed her cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head and the death was officially ruled a homicide.

From day one, STPSO detectives have worked aggressively to investigate the circumstances surrounding Krentel’s death.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has worked, and will continue to work, hand-in-hand with the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal and our federal partners with the FBI to ensure every lead has been vetted and all resources have been used to help solve this case and bring closure to Krentel’s family and the entire St. Tammany Parish community.

Over the past 12 months, STPSO detectives have worked countless hours, have executed more than 20 search warrants, have interviewed more than 30 individuals and have reviewed surveillance videos from multiple locations in an effort to develop information and/or leads in this case. At this time, our investigators have not received any official determination of cause and/or origin of the fire from the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal.

“This is an active and ongoing investigation. I have the utmost confidence in our detectives to solve this case, and we will not stop our efforts until justice is served,” Sheriff Smith said.
