The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Covington-area woman following an incident that occurred Thursday morning in a neighborhood off Three Rivers Road in Covington.

Shortly after 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning, STPSO deputies were dispatched to the 18000 block of Derbes Drive in reference to a vehicle striking a pedestrian.

Courtney McMahon (D.O.B. 08/23/1979) was driving her 2000 Dodge Caravan on Derbes Drive when the van struck a man blowing grass clippings on the edge of the roadway in front of a residence.

The victim told responding deputies that McMahon stopped her vehicle immediately after the crash.  Witnesses observed her 15-year-old son exit the vehicle with a bag and attempt to conceal it in a nearby yard.

Deputies retrieved the bag from its hiding place and located suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia inside.

McMahon admitted ownership of the bag and its contents and confessed to having had her son attempt to hide the bag before deputies arrived.

Her 16-year-old daughter was also in the vehicle at the time.
