A 12-year-old Slidell-area student was arrested Friday (September 16) after he told a classmate he was going to bring a gun to school.

The School Resource Officer at Clearwood Junior High School was notified after a student told his classmate Thursday that he would bring a gun to school on Friday and shoot him.  The incident was not reported until Friday after the school day had started.

The student, who was at school Friday, was issued a summons for Terrorizing. After it was determined he was not in possession of a firearm, he was released to a parent on a custodial agreement to appear in court.

“We will continue to take threats like this very seriously,” St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith said, “and we will continue to work with our schools and investigate all threats made at our schools or to the students and faculty who attend them.  Parents, please talk to your children and explain the seriousness of making comments like this, even in a joking manner.”
