The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Pearl River-area man following a homicide that occurred late Friday night (April 26) in the River Gardens neighborhood near Slidell.

At approximately 11:15 p.m. Friday night, STPSO deputies were dispatched to a residence on Pine Drive in Slidell in reference to an individual who had been shot.

Responding deputies located a man lying in the driveway of the residence with an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported via emergency personnel to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Terrell Sylvas (DOB 8/4/1984) of Pearl River, was also located at the residence. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for an apparent drug overdose. 

Subsequent to the investigation, detectives learned Sylvas was responsible for shooting the 54-year-old victim.

Upon his release from the hospital, Sylvas was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on the following charges:

L.R.S. 14:30.1 Second-degree Murder
L.R.S. 14:95.1 Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon
L.R.S. 14:95E Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of CDS
L.R.S. 40:967 Possession of Schedule II CDS
L.R.S. 40:969 Possession of Schedule IV CDS
L.R.S. 32:57.1 Failure to Appear
