An 11-year-old student from Abita Middle School was arrested Monday (March 5) after making threats toward another student.
St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies were contacted by the school after an 11-year-old female student told a teacher another student had sent her texts over the weekend claiming he was going to bring a knife to school and kill her.
The male student was arrested for LRS 14:40.1 Terrorizing and booked into the Florida Parishes Detention Center.
A search was conducted, and no knife was located in the child’s possession.
“We have made it very clear that threats like this will be taken very seriously,” " Sheriff Randy Smith said. “We will continue to work with our schools to investigate any and all threats on our schools and the students who attend them and enforcement action will be taken when warranted. Parents I urge you, again, to please speak with your children about the seriousness of making comments like these.”
