On Wednesday afternoon (May 3, 2017), an employee of Covington Country Club called 911 after he observed an elderly man lying on the ground, next to his truck, near 195 Country Club Drive. The man was later identified as 97-year-old Charles Crockett (Covington, Louisiana). Crockett was able to tell first responders that he was run over by his own truck as he was attempting to close a gate.

Crockett, who was doing some yardwork for a friend, was leaving the property for the day. He stopped his truck in order to shut a gate, but he accidentally didn’t put the truck fully in park. As Crockett exited his truck to close the gate, the truck rolled over him causing fatal injuries.

Crockett was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith says, “To live to be 97-years-old is an accomplishment in itself. It’s a shame this gentleman’s life was taken due to a tragic and unexpected accident. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Mr. Crockett.”
