The American Society of Italian Heritage presented St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Jesse Smith with its “Rising Star” award at a special dinner held last week.
The award is presented each year to a sheriff’s deputy with less than two years of service in recognition of outstanding service achievement. Deputy Smith, who currently serves in Patrol District IV, has been assigned to STPSO’s Criminal Patrol Division since 2016.
In addition to being selected as the recipient of this award for his excellent work and dedication on the job, Deputy Smith was also chosen based on his “heroic and valiant” efforts. He is credited with helping save the lives of an elderly couple, who were seriously injured earlier this year.
“Deputy Jesse Smith is shining example of what this agency looks for in a deputy,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “I am pleased that local organizations like the American Society of Italian Heritage makes a point to recognize the heroic efforts of our deputies, especially ones that are at the beginning of their careers.”
Deputy Smith’s name has been placed alongside past recipients of the Rising Star Award on plaques that hang in each of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office locations.
