At the request of Sheriff Randy Smith, Attorney General Jeff Landry’s office recently looked into the actions of Ricky Steinert and Nathan Stokes, two former deputies.

The results of these investigations have been turned over to District Attorney Warren Montgomery’s Office, and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office remains committed to assisting the D.A. in any way possible.

Sheriff Smith issued the following statement concerning this matter:

“When I took office just over two years ago, I recognized that there were many outstanding employees working for the Sheriff’s Office.  Unfortunately, there were also a few problem employees, and I terminated those employees on my first day in office.  Since then, I have worked diligently to weed out any deputy who is not completely committed to serving the citizens of St. Tammany Parish.  That is what the residents of our parish deserve, and that is what they can expect from my administration,” Smith said.
