As the investigation into the death of Nanette Krentel continues, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office investigators want to provide the public with an update on where the investigation stands at this point.  

As noted previously, the nature and circumstances surrounding Mrs. Krentel’s death, including the intensity of the fire, are making this a difficult and lengthy investigation.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has utilized the FBI’s vast resources and expertise in this investigation. FBI agents have been provided access to the entire case file and are reanalyzing certain pieces of evidence and information obtained during the investigation.

Using video evidence from various locations, witness interviews and digital records, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s detectives have established a timeline of Mrs. Krentel’s actions on July 14 and have narrowed down the time of her death.

Crime scene investigators located firearms near Mrs. Krentel’s body. After examining the weapons and projectiles, at least one of the weapons found cannot be ruled out as the weapon used to kill Nanette Krentel. 

Mrs. Krentel’s badly burned body was located inside the remains of her Lacombe-area home after fire burned the residence to the ground on July 14. An autopsy confirmed her cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has worked this case tirelessly since day one, and detectives will continue to work with the FBI, State Fire Marshal’s Office and the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office, until all leads are exhausted.
