Four Florida men were arrested this week after they were caught using stolen credit cards at Covington-area businesses.

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to the River Chase Shopping Center Monday (Feb. 13) afternoon, after employees at several businesses reported a group of suspicious subjects possibly using stolen credit cards.

Responding deputies located Eric Jackson (DOB 2/3/1991; 3619 E North St. Tampa, Florida); Garian Brown (DOB 5/9/1993; Idlewood St., Tampa, Florida); Isaiah Toy (DOB 7/9/1997; 3412 N Phillips St., Tampa, Florida) and Raymond Jenkins (DOB 4/11/1991; 1342 Dob Drive, Seffner, Florida) still in the shopping center.

The men had already purchased several thousand dollars of clothing, Nike shoes and sports equipment using counterfeit credit cards, and they were attempting to purchase high dollar gift cards when deputies arrived. A stack of counterfeit credit cards, including those used to make purchase at the local businesses, was located in one of the stores’ restrooms and more were located concealed inside a hidden compartment in their vehicle.

Deputies also located several thousand dollars in jewelry purchased from an Alabama jewelry store hidden inside the vehicle.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office Financial Crimes Unit is working with the affected banks and other agencies, to identify the full scope of this fraud ring.

The suspects were booked in to the St. Tammany Parish Jail on 36 counts of LRS 14:72.2 Monetary Instrument Abuse. Additional charges are pending.

Financial Crimes Detective Stefan Montgomery said, “This is yet another example of a pattern of financial fraud the Sheriff’s Office is actively combatting where the suspects take ‘orders’ from friends and associates, drive in from another state, victimize local businesses with stolen identities and counterfeit credit cards, then leave before being detected.”
