St. Tammany Sheriff’s detectives have arrested a 27-year-old Covington man after he burglarized several vehicles at a Covington-area condominium complex.
During the early morning hours on Feb. 4, six vehicles parked at the Emerald Forest Condominiums were burglarized. Four days later, on Feb. 8, three more were hit, again during the early morning hours.
Sunglasses, electronics, shoes, makeup, wallets, purses, cash, credit cards, clothes, perfume, BBQ and kitchen sets, a skateboard and even a pack of gum were stolen out of the vehicles while their owners slept.
In all cases, the vehicles had been left unlocked.
Brandon Joseph Gray (DOB 4/24/1989; 70360 7th Street, Covington) was arrested Feb. 8 after surveillance video caught him making multiple charges at local businesses using credit cards that was stolen out of some of the vehicles. He was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail for two counts of bank fraud and one count of simple burglary.
On Feb. 14, 8 counts of simple burglary and one count of criminal damage were added to his charges.
It is unknown at this time if Gray acted alone or with others. Detectives are also looking into the possibility that Gray is responsible for other vehicle burglaries in surrounding neighborhoods.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges and arrests are possible.
If you are a victim of an unreported vehicle burglary, please contact Det. Foltmer at 985-276-1330.
And, as we have said before, please always lock your vehicles and do not leave valuables in your vehicle.
