Between Nov. 9 and Dec. 8, 16 vehicles were burglarized in the Carriage Lane Estates area of Mandeville. During the same time, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office also received reports of packages being stolen from porches and mail taken from mailboxes in the same area.

On Dec. 7, an operational plan was created between the investigations division and criminal patrol division in an effort to proactively pursue the illegal activities in the area. On Dec. 8, a deputy was patrolling the neighborhood in response to this recent criminal activity, when he observed Elizabeth McGuire (DOB 4/23/1978; 4520 Marquette Street) rummaging through mail inside a mailbox outside a home on Carriage Lane. McGuire matched the description of a female that was caught on surveillance video attempting to enter a home in the same neighborhood on Dec. 4.

McGuire was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on Dec. 8 for one count each of LRS 14:59 Criminal Mischief and LRS 27:62 Attempted Simple Burglary.

On Dec. 9, the homeowner at the residence where McGuire had been staying prior to her arrest, called to report she had located numerous items believed to have been stolen inside the room where McGuire had been staying.

McGuire has since been arrested on the following additional charges:
16 counts of LRS 14:62 Simple Burglary
10 counts of LRS 14:67.B.4 Theft Under $1,000
1 count of LRS 14:56B(1) Simple Criminal Damage Less Than $1,000

Detectives have recovered most of the items that were reported stolen from the Carriage Lane Estates area, and are working with victims to return those items.

This is an ongoing investigation and additional charges against McGuire are possible.
