On June 1, 2006 the St. Tammany Parish Council adopted a revision to Article XIII, Chapter 15 of the Parish Code (Burglary and Robbery Alarm Systems - False Alarms).  The ordinance is designed to encourage alarm system users and alarm monitoring businesses to assume increased responsibility for maintaining the mechanical liability and the proper use of alarm systems.

The new ordinance will reduce unnecessary police emergency response to false alarms, and thereby to protect the emergency response capability of the Sheriff’s Office from misuse.

In short, the ordinance provides for fines for excessive false alarms, provides for discontinuation of the Sheriff’s Office response to excessive false alarms, and provides for penalties for violations.
